Simple Lives: The Women Who Create Them with Hailey Andresen

Simple Lives | Hailey Andresen | The Everyday Simple

There is something to be admired about simple lives. Not to be mistaken with boring or basic, but simple. Lives that are so full, but only full of things that are intentionally filling them. Lives that are mindful and allow people to do things that other people would see as impossible.

Today I am sharing my first post of a new series called “Simple Lives: The Women Who Create Them.” Each month I am going to be highlighting a different woman that I admire for the life she leads. A life full of intentionality and simplicity. A life that she has created due to her desire for something more. More time, more space, more freedom, more control, etc.  Read more

    K.I.S.S. of the Week

    1. To Eat: We don’t eat pasta all that often around here, but when we do, this is the dish of choice. It is amazing. The perfect sauce to noodle ratio.
    2. To Know: After the tragedies from earlier this week, I think we are all wondering what can we do. What can we do to help? What can we do to make a difference and hopefully help prevent something like this from happening again? This article has great practical suggestions of what to do next.
    3. To Buy: Never find yourself without a blanket again. Bring on all the spontaneous picnics.
    4. To Read: One of the most transformative books of my life. Definitely gave me new perspective on life, and continues to challenge me everyday. Taught me that vulnerability is a sign of strength, and not weakness.
    5. To Use: Ever wonder what the purpose of the “Baby on Board” signs are? Well here is your answer. And here is where you can get one.
    6. To Style: Drooling over their entire new fall line. Definitely pieces worth investing in.
    7. To Change: This month I started a new series called 30 Days of Habits. Every month I am going to attack a new habit and commit to it for 30 days. Making little changes every day is what ultimately makes the biggest changes in our lives.
    8. To Do: Listen to this moving performance of “No Freedom” by Miley Cyrus
    9. To Drink: Here is why you should start drinking Kombucha. Not to mention it is absolutely delicious. My favorite brand is GTS (Trilogy and Gingerberry)
    10. To Download: Sleep Cycle. This is an app that runs while you are sleeping, and tracks your sleep patterns. It uses a wake up phase (30 minutes by default) that ends at your desired alarm time. During this phase Sleep Cycle will monitor signals from your body to wake you softly, when you are in the lightest possible sleep state. It’s amazing how much easier it is to wake up when you aren’t in your deepest sleep.
    11. To Remember: “If you want something you’ve never had, you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.” – Thomas Jefferson

Pinecone Bird Feeders | The Everyday Simple

One of our favorite things about our house is our backyard. Especially now that the weather is starting to cool off, and the mosquitos are retreating for the season, we spend the majority of our time out there.

The yard is lined with trees, which in turn brings a lot of different birds to our yard, which brings a certain 2 year old a lot of entertainment. She loves to try to “get them,” and always seems disappointment when they “flew away” before she is able to get to them.  Read more

How to Form Healthy Habits : 30 Days of Habits

“We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.” – John Dryden

I bet it’s safe to say that everyone has things in their life that they wish they did more of. Whether it is eating better, exercising, reading, investing in people, or even taking baths, we all have those things that we would love to have as healthy habits in our life.

We want more of those things because we know they are good for us. We know that they will improve our life and be good for us in one way or another, yet it is so hard to adopt those habits and stick with them for the long run. Read more

“Mama, you were given these children. You—no one else. You were given these children because you are who they need. You have the soul to love them even on their hard days. You have the motivation and love to give to these children everything they need. You have the heart to wake up every morning and do it all over again, even when you are exhausted. You have the smile that they crave and the touch to make everything okay. You are their sunshine and their comfort. You are theirs, and they are yours, Mama.
